What it is
Ketonix AB in Sweden makes reusable breath analyzers that read acetone in ppm. Its current Bronze Basic starts at $169 (VAT added for EU orders), has no sensor to replace, connects over Bluetooth and USB-C, and works with the Ketonix app on iOS and Android and desktop software (Ketonix).
Ketonix itself points out that the device measures acetone in the breath, not the blood ketone beta-hydroxybutyrate.
Cost
A one-off price with no strips or cartridges, so the cost per test falls the more it is used.
Limitations
- Readings are in ppm of breath acetone and cannot be read as blood mmol/L.
- Breath acetone is only moderately correlated with blood ketones, and accuracy depends on sensor stability and other gases (Fante et al., 2025).
