What is a continuous ketone monitor?
A small sensor worn on the skin, usually on the back of the upper arm, with a thin filament that measures the ketone beta-hydroxybutyrate in the fluid under the skin every few minutes and sends the readings to a phone.
Is there an FDA-approved continuous ketone monitor?
Yes. On 25 August 2026 the FDA authorized Abbott’s Libre Duo 10 Day, a sensor that measures both glucose and ketones, through its De Novo pathway. It is for people with diabetes aged 2 and over, is prescription only, and Abbott plans to launch it in the US later in 2026.
Can I buy a continuous ketone monitor in the UK?
As of 28 September 2026 the continuous ketone sensor on sale in the UK is the SiBio KS3, on Amazon UK at £74.99 per 14-day sensor. It is sold as a non-medical product. Abbott’s Libre Duo has a CE mark but no UK launch date yet.
Does Abbott Lingo measure ketones?
No. Lingo, sold in the US and the UK, measures glucose only. Abbott’s ketone sensing is in Libre Duo, a medical device for people with diabetes.
How much does continuous ketone monitoring cost?
A SiBio KS3 at £74.99 per 14-day sensor comes to about £163 a month. Abbott has not announced a price for Libre Duo. By comparison, one Keto-Mojo blood ketone strip a day costs about $26 a month in the US. The cost calculator works out any combination.
Are continuous ketone monitors as accurate as blood tests?
In Abbott’s 2021 study, 82.4% of sensor readings were within 0.225 mmol/L or 20% of finger-prick results. A 2026 study of SiBio’s KS1 saw readings drift down over 14 days. Sensors read the fluid under the skin, so their numbers can differ from blood, and experts recommend a backup blood meter for people with diabetes.
What ketone level do continuous monitors alarm at?
Abbott’s Libre Duo has an Urgent High Ketones alarm above 3.0 mmol/L, the same urgent-high level used in the international expert recommendations on continuous ketone monitoring. SiBio’s app has adjustable high and low alerts.
What is the difference between blood, breath and urine ketone tests?
They measure different ketones. Blood meters and continuous sensors measure beta-hydroxybutyrate in mmol/L, breath meters measure acetone in ppm, and urine strips measure acetoacetate on a color scale. Their numbers cannot be converted into each other.
Can a consumer ketone sensor replace ketone testing for type 1 diabetes?
No. SiBio says its sensor is not intended for diagnosing, treating or monitoring disease. People with type 1 diabetes follow the ketone testing plan from their diabetes team and official NHS or American Diabetes Association guidance.
Which ketone does a continuous monitor measure?
Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB), the same ketone that finger-prick blood ketone meters measure, but in interstitial fluid rather than blood.
